Mac vs. PC

Mac vs. PC This is one of the most controversial topics when talking about computers. This document is meant to give a comparison between Apple Macintosh computers and PC computers running Microsoft Windows. This page should be used to help educate users looking to buy a new computer and not as a method of declaring the best of the two. You should base your buying decision off what you believe will work best for you. Topic Mac PC Security When compared to any PC running Microsoft Windows all Apple Macintosh computers are much more secure and less vulnerable to viruses and other malware. Most people today are using computers running some version of Microsoft Windows, which makes it a much better target for attackers. Price Although many may argue you get what you pay for, when compared to a PC an Apple co

Android vs. iOS: Google's OS Continues to Dominate but iPhone 6 Helps Apple

Android vs. iOS: Google's OS Continues to Dominate but iPhone 6 Helps Apple Share This Tweet This Android and iOS continue to duke it out as the two most popular mobile operating systems in the world, and while Google's offering holds a dominant lead, the new iPhones have breathed new life into Apple's popularity. According to market analytics firm Kantar Worldpanel , Android owns a majority of the market in major European countries, China, major Latin American countries and even in the United States. In short, there doesn't seem to be a single region on this planet where Apple's iOS operating system running on the iPhone is more popular than Android. The data covers a three-month period ending in September 2014. There is a silver lining for Apple, however. It seems that the new iPhones, the 4.7-inch iPhone 6 and the 5.5-inch iPhone 6 Plus that released in mid-September, have give Apple a surge. "Our latest dat

How to Connect Your Computer to Your TV

How to Connect Your Computer to Your TV In 2005, then-Microsoft Chairman and CEO Bill Gates shows off the company's Windows XP Media Center Edition software, which can be used to deliver video, music and photos from a computer to a TV. There's something painfully ironic about sitting on your living room couch, just a few feet away from a beautiful widescreen HDTV , watching a movie on your tiny laptop. Yet this is what most of us do when we download movies or TV shows onto our computers . The same goes for showing off our latest digital photos to friends. We all huddle around the 15-inch computer display while the TV screen goes unused. And what about that PowerPoint presentation you just gave at work? Wouldn't it have looked 1,000 times better on the wall-mounted plasma display in the conference room? There are many compelling reasons why we want to connect our computers to our televisions, especiall

Bing vs. Google

How Microsoft Bing Works Bing vs. Google You've heard it all before. It's the most overused axiom in any event where the underdog takes on the top dog: David versus Goliath. The underdog rarely has a chance and almost never pulls off the improbable upset. That's sort of the case with Bing. With Google as the top dog of search engines, no company outside of Yahoo has been able to muster much of a challenge. Search is Google's bread and butter. Microsoft, on the other hand, is much more diverse. But Google's single focus has rewarded it with the largest piece of the pie. Microsoft's Windows Live Search was a search engine that went along with the company's other Live-brand-named products. Live Search wasn't a dedicated search, or in Bing's case, decision engine, and couldn't compete with Google. That's why Microsoft built Bing. To compete with the Google juggernaut, Microsoft ja

: Why Yahoo’s Not Going To Steal The Search Default For iPhone Away From Google :

Why Yahoo’s Not Going To Steal The Search Default For iPhone Away From Google Apparently, Yahoo CEO Marissa Mayer wants to be the default search for Apple’s Safari browser on iPhone and iPad and has been preparing to make a solid pitch. Well, we all want things we can’t have, and I’d be incredibly surprised if Yahoo got its wish here. Kara Swisher over at Re/code has the scoop, in her  Marissa Mayer’s Secret Plan to Get Apple to Dump Google and Default to Yahoo Mobile Search  story. Be sure to read that. Here, I’m going to share the incredibly tough list of obstacles that would have to be overcome to turn this from a fantasy into reality. Yahoo Has No Search Technology The biggest challenge Yahoo has is that it lacks any solid search technology. Sure, Yahoo has some for very specialized things. But the core technology to sift through billions of pages across the web and ferret out relevant results? Yahoo gave all that up as part of

: Are You Still Using Windows XP? :

Are You Still Using Windows XP? You should know that Microsoft has finally given up on its most successful product and announced that it won’t support Windows XP any more. In other words, millions of computers all over the world are now at risk from security threats, but the software giant failed to persuade people to switch to another operating system. According to the latest statistics, almost 25% of the world’s machines still run XP. Of course, it has been a pretty long run. Windows XP was released in the mid-2001 and its development was started in the late 1990s. Its prototype code was codenamed “Neptune” and built on the Windows NT kernel, intended for consumers. In the meantime, an updated version of Windows 2000 was also initially planned for the business market. In the early 2000, both of these projects were shelved in favor of a single operating system nickenamed “Whistler”, which could b

Simple Cool Tricks With Chrome Developer Tool

Simple Cool Tricks With Chrome Developer Tool As you probably know, there is a button on the right-click menu of Google Chrome and IE 10+ called ''Inspect element''. This the developer tool. And you can have a lot of fun with it. I'll give you two examples on how to use it in this tutorial. 1. Change the text of a webpage: You can have fun on webpages just by changing the value of a <span> (a text label). For example, go on the 4shared .com site (a free file sharing site ). Then create an account if you don't have one (or just connect with Google, Facebook or Twitter). When you are done, upload something that is heavy (more than 100 MB) by dragging and dropping it on the home page of 4shared. Then you can see an uploading status window on the screen. So right-click on the percentage and click on ''Inspect element''. Now you can see a little window that appears on the bottom of the web browser. There a

: NTU develops ultra-fast charging batteries that last 20 years :

NTU develops ultra-fast charging batteries that last 20 years (Clockwise from top) NTU Assoc Prof Chen Xiaodong with research fellow Tang Yuxin and PhD student Deng Jiyang Scientists at Nanyang Technology University (NTU) have developed ultra-fast charging batteries that can be recharged up to 70 per cent in only two minutes. The new generation batteries also have a long lifespan of over 20 years, more than 10 times compared to existing lithium-ion batteries. This breakthrough has a wide-ranging impact on all industries, especially for electric vehicles, where consumers are put off by the long recharge times and its limited battery life. With this new technology by NTU, drivers of electric vehicles could save tens of thousands on battery replacement costs and can recharge their cars in just a matter of minutes. Commonly used in mobile phones, tablets, and in electric vehicles, rechargeable lithium-ion batteries usually last about 500 recharge cycles.
